The Seven Archons Lore
The Archon War
The Archon War is a momentous and incredibly significant point in Teyvat's history that helped shaped its current landscape and culture. The reason for the warring gods era is yet to be disclosed, but one thing is certain: strife and chaos walked the surface of Teyvat because of the gods.
Dominion over gods
From the accounts in the Stone Tablet Complilations: Volume 1, the Archon War was described as an event where "gods each strove for dominance", implying that The Archon War was triggered by something that will grant them dominion over other gods.
Furthermore, it was noted that the Rex Lapis lived long enough that he had seen the prologue of the Archon War, as well as its end, marked by when the last Archon claimed their seat in Celestia.
It could then be gathered, the genesis of the Archon War had something to do with empty seats in Celestia being claimed by the warring gods below.
The Kings of Ice and Frost
The God of Storm and Lupus Boreas, are another pair of gods that went against each other during the Archon War period.
For one, Andrius made the then Mondstadt into a harsh tundra, in which no human can live. Wanting to protect his people, the former Anemo Archon, Decarabian, built a wall of engulfing storms to chase Andrius' blizzards away.
The Wisp of the Wind and Mondstadt
The engulfing storm served as a wall that protected the people of Mondstadt from the harsh, icy wasteland outside but despite that, they still felt otherwise trapped. Led by the Gunnhildr Clan, some of them defected, unaware of the icy horror outside the city walls.
It was when Barbatos, who was still a wisp of the wind back then, heard the cry of the daughter of the Gunnhildr and gained enough power to protect the defecting clan. Because of this deed, the clan then revered the wind elf, thusly increasing Barbatos' power more.
The Fall of the Tyrant and Rise of Freedom
The Gunnhildr Clan, alongside a nameless wind elf, a nameless bard, a knight, a huntress, and a red-haired warrior, rebelled against the despotism of Decarabian and succesfully killed him. Although the rebels suffered losses—death of Amos, the huntress, and the nameless bard—it started the reign of the current Anemo Archon.
The Great Wolf King of the North
After the events unfolded and paved the rise of Mondstadt, Andrius chose to perish as he'd seen himself unfit to rule over humans. His unrelenting contempt against humanity has no place or whatsoever in the title of Archon.
However, the Anemo Archon Barbatos asked him to become one of the Four Winds of Mondstadt, which he readily obliged to.

The Guili Assembly
During the Treasure Lost, Treasure Found World Quest, the Traveler met the scholar Soraya, whose interest is primarily about the God of Dust, Guizhong, and the preservation of Liyue's history.
Upon completing the stone tablets, Soraya retells a tale about two gods, who acted as stewards for humanity which later on would be known to be Guizhong and the Geo Archon himself, Zhongli.
The Guili Assembly would then become home to fluorishing civilization where gods, humans, and adepti coexisted.
The Fall of the Guili Assembly
Because of how the warring gods wrecked havoc throughout Teyvat, Guili Assembly was destroyed and Guizhong was slain. It was then when Rex Lapis brought his people from the Guili Plains to south of Mt. Tianheng and establish Liyue Harbor.
The God of Stove
The aftermath of the Archon War still was a difficult period in history, especially for mortals. Fortunately, Marchosius, God of the Stove, also known by the name Guoba, helped the people of Liyue settle down.
However, even centuries after the Archon War, humanity was still plagued by diseases and natural calamities, all primarily caused by curses of the defeated gods. It was then that Marchosius sacrificed his sanity and power to save the people of Liyue for good.
The Dark Sea
From the A Drunkard's Tale, the Dark Sea, albeitly indirectly, was described as a place beyond the rule of The Seven and is home to the fallen gods.
It also became the resting place of the ancient gods who do not wish to be ruled over by the new order of the Seven Archons. In addition, the Dark Sea is also the original place where the Seelies live.
The Gnoses
The exact definition of what makes who a god and an Archon is still vague, except that gods do not possess Gnoses. How Gnoses are granted to Archons is still currently unknown, but these emblems of power seem to be gravely connected to Celestia.
Gnoses are not like Visions
Unlike regular mortals, Archons do not need to resonate with a Vision to manipulate the power of an element. If anything, it seems like before claiming the seat of an Archon, the individual must be highly affiliated to an element.
In the Anemo Archon's case for instance, Barbatos was a wind elf. Being a purely elemental being and gaining reverence from his people after Decarabian was slain, it was no surprise that Venti managed to ascend to Celestia and become an Archon.
Symbol of Celestia
Assuming that the primary reason for the Archon War is to claim a seat in Celestia, it means Gnoses are emblems of power from Celestia.
Judging from the Tsaritsa's goal to "burn the old world away", it means that Gnoses have something to do with her ultimate goal that involves waging war against the world.
According to Nahida, Gnoses are means to awaken the Heavenly Principles, during an exchange with Dottore, in the last act of her Archon Quest.
